Qantas loses major case over outsourcing work

Qantas is to appeal the Australian Federal Court’s watershed judgment that it contravened the Fair Work Act in outsourcing the remainder of its ground handling functions, setting the scene for a protracted confrontation with the Transport Workers Union which is pushing for the nearly 2000 workers to be reinstated.

Federal Court Justice Michael Lee called into question the evidence of both Qantas domestic chief executive Andrew David, as well as former chief operating officer Paul Jones describing it as “unconvincing” in relationship to the TWU’s claim that the airline was using the pandemic as “transformational opportunity” lay-off the workers who could read more ⇒
