A banker-turned-blogger who more than doubled her income in a year explains why wealth has made little difference in her life

When Kristin Addis quit her job as an investment banker in 2012, she had saved about $20,000 in cash and $60,000 in retirement savings.

“I had been saving for years,” Addis told Business Insider. “It was between putting money into buying a condo or traveling.”

She chose traveling. Since buying a one-way ticket to Bangkok less than a year after leaving her job, the now 30-year-old has largely stayed on the move, documenting her journey through her blog, Be My Travel Muse, and sharing the expertise she’s gathered in her book, “Conquering Mountains: A Guide to Solo Female Travel.”
